52nd edition of Indian International Film Festival kicks off in Goa | Goa Film Festival

New Delhi: The 52nd edition of the Indian International Film Festival (IFFI), Asia’s oldest and largest film festival, kicked off in Goa on Saturday.

Founded in 1952, the film festival is held annually to celebrate the excellence of world cinema. This year, it takes place from November 20 to 28.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s IFFI will be hybrid and festival delegates will have the opportunity to participate and watch movies and other events virtually, from the comfort of their own homes. The IFFI will present 148 films from around 73 countries in the international section with around 12 world premieres, around 7 international premieres, 26 Asian premieres and around 64 Indian premieres.

For the first time, IFFI invited the main OTT players to participate in the festival. As a first step, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Zee5, Voot and Sony Liv will participate in the Film Festival through exclusive masterclasses, content launches and previews, screenings of organized film packages and various other events on the field and virtual.

The festival is jointly organized by the Film Festivals Directorate (under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) and the Goa Entertainment Society, Government of Goa. The festival offers the ideal platform to understand and appreciate the film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethics.
