Albury Chamber Music Festival announces 2022 program
The Albury Chamber Music Festival has announced its 2022 programme, titled The Year of the Voice, with 10 concerts over three days in November in the beautiful city on the border of NSW and Victoria.
Artistic directors, mezzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell and conductor and percussionist Mario Dobernig, brought together some of Australia’s finest music-makers, including Andrew Goodwin, Andrea Lam, Yi Wang, David Drury and John Bolton-Wood , as well as Russell and Dobernig themselves, who will perform at the festival, which takes place November 4-6, 2022.
Dobernig said in a statement, “Sally-Anne Russell and I look forward to showcasing world-class music and musicians in exquisite settings and connecting like-minded music lovers through musical and social events. “
Performance highlights include David Drury playing a Letourneau pipe organ at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, a solo piano recital by Andrea Lam – including Australian composer Matthew Hindson sad piano piecethat Lam recently revealed to limelight she recorded for release in 2023 – a performance by Purcell’s Dido and Aeneasstarring Russell and Goodwin, and Goodwin and Lam team up to tackle Schubert’s breathtaking and haunting Winterreise.
The festival is also committed to the region’s musical community. 13-year-old piano prodigy Nikki Jian, winner of the 2021 Albury Chamber Music Festival Prize, will give a solo piano recital including Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 27 No. 2, Beethoven Appassionata Sonata and Rachmaninoff Vocalize, arranged for piano. Father Peter MacLeod-Miller leads the Festival’s Advent service in St Matthews on Sunday mornings, incorporating instrumental and vocal works by JS Bach.
A three-day festival pass gives you access to all 10 concerts, plus a three-course dinner as part of the opening gala celebrations. And in a move this writer hopes will become standard at all concerts nationwide, the festival will pause for scones and a stroll around the grounds of the heritage-listed Adamshurst Manor immediately before the final concert. .
Held annually since 2016, the festival strives to bring world-class chamber music to Albury and the region surrounding the NSW/Victoria border. It makes full use of Albury’s exquisite late 19th century architecture, with concerts held in St Matthew’s Church, the Adamshurst Ballroom, the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) and the Albury Club.
