Deering Estate hosts the Miami Short Film Festival

The Miami Short Film Festival (MIAMIsFF), in partnership with Deering Estate, presents Focus On: Passport to the World! movies on Sunday, September 25. Enjoy a welcome cocktail and the screening of eleven short films. This event will take place inside the Deering Estate Theatre.

The screening will begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cocktail with cash bar and music from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The following short films will be presented:

Fjord
Real. by Skule Eriksen – Documentary – 24 min., Norway
Fjord is a personal interpretation of the landscape of Naeroyfjord in western Norway, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. The film is poetic and rhythmic, following the changing light and changing seasons in this landscape unique and dramatic.

Afghani ’72

After finding 16mm reels in the attic of his parents’ house, a man discovers an unlikely side to his father’s personality.

Caracas By Motorbike
Real. by Daniel Ruiz Hueck – Documentary – 10 min., Venezuela
In this fun documentary, traffic in Caracas, Venezuela is petrifying and, according to experts around the world (and weary, weary citizens of Caracas), a cause of extreme deadly stress.

Ephemeral city

Getaway to Kaohsiung

This music video aims to promote tourism in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The song is about getting away from hectic life and traveling to Kaohsiung (city in southern Taiwan). The singer, Namewee, was in his “Moving Room” and traveled around Kaohsiung City. He meets different indigenous citizens, including natives, tastes various local delicacies and visits popular sites.

Living with snow leopards: Sainaa’s story
Real. by J. Joe Pontecorvo & Gayle Podrabsky – Documentary – 11 min., USA
Sainaa Sainbileg and her husband raise goats for subsistence in a remote Yamaat valley in Mongolia. They share their mountain home with killer predators, snow leopards and wolves. Sainaa has found a way to save the snow leopard from certain death if the cat kills her livestock.
