New Delhi, Nov. 5 (Jiji Press) — A film festival featuring six cartoons by Japanese director Makoto Shinkai kicked off in India on Friday.

The event which marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India is sponsored by the Japan Foundation. As part of the festival, Shinkai’s works will be shown in major cities across the South Asian nation through December, starting with its capital, New Delhi.

According to the foundation, Shinkai’s blockbuster “Your Name” is also very popular in India, and Japanese rock band RADWIMPS, which created the theme song for Your Name, is also well known to Indians.

On Friday, a video of RADWIMPS performing with an orchestra behind movie scenes was released. Prior to the screening of the video, local Japanese anime fans staged a cosplay show to entertain around 300 people who gathered at the event venue in New Delhi.

Among the visitors was Nikhil Tripathi, 20, who is expected to start working as a corporate employee in Tokyo this month. Tripathi said Your Name made him start studying Japanese and he never got tired of the movie no matter how many times he watched it. He also said that the music of RADWIMPS made him very comfortable.
