III Points Music Festival | Miami Community News

If music is your sanctuary, III Points Miami is poised to become a mega weekend of churches.

The 2021 III Points Music Festival will start at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22 and end on Saturday, October 23 in the early hours of the morning, who knows when. Its two days of music, art and technology are massive exhibitions of immersive, interactive and cutting-edge installations, environments and experiences. Six stages host this year’s lineup with the latest audiovisual technologies and unique multidimensional environments. Big stages, big stages, smaller stages, small stages, secondary stages, raised stages, etc. Murals, lights, graffiti, food and countless performances from a large number of promising music acts as well as famous ones from all over the world. world are on the register. Bands, bands, DJs, sectors, coalitions, alliances, mixers, strobes, rappers, toasters, dancers, imposters, mixers, town criers, town criers – there just aren’t enough names and certainly not enough adjectives .

The lineup has more body than the Dolphins, Canes, Marlins and Panthers combined. Friday’s sets are highlighted by The Strokes, Eric Prydz, Jamie XX, Peggy Gou and the highly regarded repeat visitor Khruangbin. While most acts do it straight out, in club style, Devendra Banhart, Moses Sumney, The Poodle, and Rick Moon are some of the exceptions.

Saturday brings more variety with old buds like me, the Wu-Tang Clan legends joining the funky Thundercat, Kaytranada, Washed Out, Three Six Mafia and super soul Gabriel Garzón-Montano.

To be fair, III Points had to reschedule the festivities several times. The event was originally rescheduled to take place on April 30 and May 1, the original dates in May of last year were changed to October 16 and 17 before being rescheduled for 2021. Dreams of normality having failed Never succeeded, vaccine wars, misinformation, Kyrie Irving, and questions about the effectiveness of boosters against variants of the virus, as well as the duration of their immunity, further clouded the prospects of seeing the III Points take off. Still, the festival looks like one of those big double-decker planes with the VIPs on the second floor. It seems to push back from the door and ready to take off.

In order to try and approach the madness of the virus and deniers in a thoughtful way, using common sense, participants will need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed within 72 hours or, failing that, proof of full vaccination.

In February 2019, pre-COVID, Miami celebrated III Points like A $ AP Rocky, Erykah Badu, and Blood Orange; I then saw upstart Khruangbin on a stage in the back corner which reminded me of the glory day concerts with exuberant crowds worshiping acts that provided the fantasies that sustain people through hardships like the ones we are doing. have been through recently.

I am an old conductor, and music has always provided me with a refuge from the unwanted problems of life. I was lucky to have seen Santana, the Rolling Stones, Parliament, Beyoncé, the O’Jays, Sting, Kurt Elling, Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, Average White Band, Frank Zappa, Hot 8, Jay-Z, Johnny Hallyday, BB King, James Brown, Fishbone, Lenny Kravitz, Black Eyed Peas, Yes, Tromboranga, Roy Ayers and Ziggy Marley among a hundred others. So I keep my fingers crossed and remain optimistic that this incarnation of III Points will add to future memories.
