MIA drops Portola Music Festival due to ‘serious health issue’
MIA filed the invoice for the Portola Music Festival due to “an unexpected and serious health problem”, according to the promoters of the concert set to will premiere September 24-25 at Pier 80 in San Francisco.
Goldenvoice, the promotion company behind Coachella Valley Music and Arts and Stagecoach music festivals in Southern California, said “a replacement will be announced very soon” for the best-known British pop artist for the 2008 single, “Paper Planes.”

The singer, whose real name is Mathangi”Maya » Arulpragasam, made a brief update in a Twitter response Friday, September 16.
“I’m grateful to have been asked to be a part of this festival, and I will miss being in front of the fans and people of San Fran, but I need enough time to mentally process what happened , physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. I hope the festival will go well,” MIA said, without specifying the reason for the cancellation.
