New Female-Led Electronic Music Festival Seeks to Shake Up the UK – EDM.com
Calls to diversify the music industry have grown louder in recent years, but it seems the majority of festival organizers continue to ignore them. Today the organizers of a new electronic music festival in London have taken the biggest step yet by planning a groundbreaking event which they hope will move the needle in the right direction for performance.
The philosophy of the festival, dubbed Risen, revolves around celebrating the spiritual concept of the divine feminine. Not only is Risen run by women, but it will also feature programming comprised of all female, trans and non-binary artists. The lineup is packed with talent and includes over 90 artists, including Angel D’Lite, Hannah Holland, Helena Star, Madam X and many more.
In an interview with the evening standard, Kitty Bartlett, head of reservations and head of events for Risen, explained the goals of the festival.
“Risen is a festival organized by women to shine a light on the emerging talents who work so tirelessly in the music industry, whether it’s DJs, event managers, graphic designers, technicians lighting, etc said Bartlett. “It’s time for a new energy.”
Risen will take place in London on April 9 at various venues around Hackney Wick. You can find more information about the festival and register for pre-sale tickets here.
