Xogun selected for “International Children’s Rights Film Festival”

The acclaimed short film “Xogun” (Vulture) from Assam has been screened at the International Children’s Rights Film Festival (ICRFF), to be held in the city of Izmir in Turkey.

Directed and scripted by award-winning filmmaker Utpal Borpujari, the film was adapted from a highly acclaimed short story written by acclaimed journalist Manoj Kumar Goswami.

Shot in January 2020 in Agia, next to the Goalpara district of Assam with immense support from Badunduppa Kala Kendra, the 16-minute short opens with a close-up of tribal boys digging up tubers and cutting to a long shot of ageless forests, signaling the idea of ​​a thriller.

Produced by IFT India, Xogun has already been shortlisted for one of the world’s most prestigious Indian film festivals, the 21st New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), which was held June 4-15. It was selected from 58 feature films, documentaries and short films in 15 languages ​​across the country.

During this time, the film has also screened at several prestigious short film festivals, including the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival and the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival (USA).

It was also screened at 14e Signs Festival (Thiruvananthapuram), considered one of India’s most prestigious short film and documentary festivals.

“Xogun” was also selected to be screened in the upcoming 4e South Asian Short Film Festival (SASFF), Calcutta; and the Koutik International Film Festival (Uttarakhand).

Awarded with the award for best film at 13e Guwahati International Film Festival, and honorable mention at the Kashmir International Film & Cultural Festival, the fictional short was also nominated for best film at the 5e Chalachitram National Film Festival, held in Guwahati.

According to Utpal Borpujari, “Xogun” portrays the transformation that the journalistic profession has undergone over the years, after being pressed by all the negativities.

The film’s cast includes veteran actors Sanjeev Hazorika and Dhananjay Nath, as well as young talents like Rimjhim Deka and Ankit Shandilya and child actors Kapil Garo (of “Ishu” fame), Anurag Rabha, Phanibhushan Rabha and Ashish Rabha.

In addition, the entire crew of this renowned short film includes – Basanta Kumar Borthakur (executive producer), Chida Bora (cinematography), Umesh Kumar (editor), Amrit Pritam Dutta (sound design, editing and mixing), Anurag Saikia ( music), Debajit Gayan (production mixer), Ghanashyam Kalita (colorist & assistant director), Dipika Deka (assistant director), Madan Rabha (art) and Homen Borah (production director).

The serial production of “Xogun” was carried out by 92X26 Films, while the film poster was designed by Samudra Kajal Saikia.

The International Children’s Rights Film Festival (ICRFF) is organized annually by the Association for the Culture and Art of Children’s Rights with the aim of raising awareness of children’s rights. It is scheduled to be held from November 12 to 20 in the historic coastal city of Izmir in Turkey.
