The Kinemastik International Short Film Festival is back and packed with film and music

The acclaimed Kinemastik International Short Film Festival is back, bringing together the love of film and music in one of Malta’s most iconic venues.

“It’s not like we’ve really gone anywhere – there was the collaboration with Amsterdam-based TheOneMinutes, which lasted two years and generated local shorts, and our shorts program continued to to be screened in Malta’s top cinemas for 2020 and 2021. But we missed our Garden of Rest and we missed you,” the organizers said.

Taking place in the Garden of Repose in Floriana from July 29-31, the Kinemastik International Short Film Festival takes place in a desecrated cemetery and garden overlooking Marsamxett Harbour.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, screenings of the main program of international short films will be presented, with an award-winning selection of recent works from around the world.

“Our audience loves to vote and will be responsible for selecting their favorite film to screen in the main programme. We have an international jury made up of award-winning directors Pia Borg and Fern Silva, who are joined by Belgian Koen De Roovere,” added the organizers.

There is even a children’s festival on Sunday.

Maltese films are shown on monitors located in the garden as part of the it-Talkies programme. For fans of experimental and avant-garde films, the Neck of the Woods program is a must.

Double Standard will also perform live on Friday night, followed by Kinemastik’s usual world-class DJ line-up. Cosmic Nights take over Saturday night, with local cosmic satellite artist JOON playing a sunset at 7:00 p.m., and DJs Dean Wengrow, Nigel Baldacchino and Campbell Reid bringing us back to the dance floor.
