The Macon Film Festival is back for the 17th edition

This is the 17th year of the festival and they will present nearly 90 films to the Central Georgia community

MACON, Ga. – A taste of Hollywood will come to Macon during the 17th Annual Macon Film Festival.

For the past two years, the event has been either virtual or an online and in-person hybrid, but this year the festival is in full swing with a full slate of films and screening locations.

“There is something for everyone and a place for everyone throughout Macon-Bibb County,” said festival board chairman Justin Andrews.

This is the festival’s 17th year and they will be showcasing nearly 90 films to the Central Georgia community of filmmakers from across the county, but many have found a home here.

There’s also a wide range of genres people can choose from, from horror to documentary to LGBTQ+ movies.

There will be film screenings at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Grand Opera House, Museum of Arts and Sciences, Douglass Theater and many more.

Andrews says that while Macon is full of musical history, there is also a great film culture with movies like 42, The Color Purple, Need for Speed and many more filmed in Macon.

He says that’s one of the reasons the Macon Film Festival is important to the community.

“It shows how Georgia is becoming this whole new ‘Hollywood of the South’, especially here in Macon with all these movies that are being produced and watched and scouted. Why not highlight the movie in the way why it should be showcased throughout the state of Georgia?” Andrews said.

He said the festival has a big economic impact on Macon because of the number of people it brings to town, but also with those new people come possible film scouts for future films that could bring in more money. to the community.

Andrews says that overall the festival is about bringing people together.

“For us to highlight the movie and of course show Macon and the rest of Georgia that ‘Hey, Macon is becoming this amazing movie mecca right here in the middle of the state,'” a- he declared.

The festival will take place from August 18 to 21. This year, if you volunteer at the Macon Film Festival, you can get a free day pass for all screenings on the day. Festival sponsorships are also still available for purchase.

You can get a full list of movies as well as find out how to get tickets on the Macon Film Festival website.
